Solar Power Cost vs. Energy Bill Cost

So here’s a tidbit of information that may not surprise you. Energy bills are going up, dramatically! Interesting how Solar Power Cost keeps on plummeting isn’t it?

So why are the energy bills rising you ask? Well how about this: Soaring costs of fuel – The availability and cost of fuel needed to generate electricity, not to mention the energy needed to bring said energy to you is a major deciding factor on how much you are charged for every kWh or kilowatt-hour that is used in a month of your household. Add on to this that supply and demand changes from season to season and also time of day. The higher the demand during the time you are using energy the more expensive it is. These are considered off-peak and on-peak periods.

Coal is continually rising in price and is considered a filthy generator of electricity. Also worth note is that clean coal sounds a lot more attractive due to it’s name then it really is. It’s still coal and exudes, yes less pollution, but still a lot! Not to mention that people are dying in coal mining accidents, poisoning due to toxic elements such as mercury, and the companies just keep blowing the tops off of beautiful mountains just to make a quick buck off you and me. Yes coal is cheap, but when you consider the loss of good hardworking Americans, the cost of maintaining these filthy plants, the effects of acid rain on the environment, and the poisoning of our water, it is extremely more expensive when all these costs are added in.

Nuclear is also on the rise. Take this into consideration, according to a report by the “Wall Street Journal”, new generation nuclear plants will end up costing us quite a bit more then originally estimated. Yeah try double to quadruple, up form 5 billion to 12 billion per plant! Generation costs are likely to be 25-30 cents/kWh when these plants are finally up and running. That’s how much wind generated electricity was when first introduced in the 1980’s, with the new state of the art facility’s, wind is around 5 cents/kWh depending on where you live in the US. Is it just me or do you think we could be spending this absurd amount of money on something that would really benefit us?

Solar power cost is still expensive to purchase from utility company’s, however utilizing solar panels on your residential home after the initial investment, is pretty much free, with very low maintenance charges. Especially considering there are lots of state and government programs that offer you incentives and tax credits to use this kind of energy generation.
